The Art of Differentiation: Strategies for Inclusive Classrooms

This Erasmus training course empowers educators across Europe with the knowledge and skills to create inclusive classrooms where every student thrives. Based on the principles of differentiated instruction, this course helps teachers move beyond a one-size-fits-all approach by learning how to tailor content, process, product, and learning environment to meet the needs of diverse learners.

Description

This is a 5-day, hands-on training program designed for teachers, school leaders, and education professionals who want to deepen their understanding and practice of differentiated instruction.

Day 1 – Foundations of Differentiated Instruction

Participants explore what differentiation really means in practice, examine common myths, and assess their current classroom strategies. Activities include self-reflection, group discussions, and an introduction to learner profiling tools.

Day 2 – Differentiating Content

Focused on how to adapt what students learn, this day covers tiered texts, choice boards, learning menus, and curriculum compacting. Participants work with real lesson plans to practice modifying content for varying readiness levels and interests.

Day 3 – Differentiating Process

This session dives into flexible grouping, learning stations, scaffolded tasks, and inquiry-based approaches. Teachers experiment with designing activities that offer multiple pathways to understanding.

Day 4 – Differentiating Product

Participants explore how to give students meaningful choices in how they demonstrate learning. Topics include alternative assessments, rubric design, student portfolios, and integrating technology for creative expression.

Day 5 – Creating an Inclusive Classroom Culture

The final day brings it all together by focusing on the classroom environment. Discussions cover social-emotional learning, culturally responsive teaching, and building a growth mindset. Participants draft a personal action plan for implementing differentiation in their own school contexts.
