Social media tools for creative teachers

This training seminar aims at highlighting social media as a useful digital teaching tool that has the possibility to enhance and fit perfectly into your teaching methods. At the dawn of the 21 st century, social media has grown to become an immensely powerful digital tool like no other, providing free information and allowing for conversation more easily than ever before in the history of mankind. As it happens, with the young being on average more digitally literate than the old, students from a very young age tend to be avid users of social media. Not only do they use it as an
exploration tool when trying to decide on a possible education plan (course of study, college rankings, college infrastructures, admission process, tuition fees, student reviews), but they also use it throughout their education as a pool of learning material for every single subject and all its requirements (understanding, memorizing, assignments, projects, tests). Slowly but surely, more and more schools
are picking up on the trend and are beginning to capitalize on social media’s advertising, learning, teaching and assessment abilities, especially in European planning activity, with the aim of promoting international cooperation and partnerships between schools from different countries. Certainly, this utilization has multiple purposes as it turns out, since social media presence doesn’t only enhance an institution’s image in the eyes of students, but also in the eyes of parents and guardians, as well as fellow institutions and interested organizations.

Learning objectives

Participants will be re-introduced to platforms with millions of users (YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook etc) by acquiring new knowledge and broadening their horizons on their various possibilities for teaching and assessment. Simultaneously, participants will also be educated on social media etiquette in an effort to maintain their professionalism online at all times. Last but not least, special emphasis will be placed on what it means for a student to be a responsible digital citizen which is
more important than ever since the social media has become the norm when it comes to carrying out research for assignments, publishing scientific papers and more.
