Inclusive Music Education: Strategies and Tools for an Accessible Classroom

Music is a universal language, but are our classrooms truly accessible to every student? This dynamic Erasmus+ course explores practical strategies and innovative tools to ensure all learners, regardless of ability or background, can participate fully in music education. Join us to transform your teaching and build a truly inclusive orchestra of learning together.

Description

This 5-day, 25-hour intensive course provides educators with concrete strategies for inclusive music teaching. We cover differentiation, adaptive technologies, sensory-friendly approaches, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in the music room. Participants will learn how to modify curriculum and use specific tools to support diverse student needs (SEN), ensuring an accessible and engaging environment for all.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Apply Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to music lessons.
  • Adapt curricula and activities for diverse learners, including those with SEN.
  • Effectively utilize adaptive musical instruments and digital apps.
  • Design accessible and meaningful assessment methods.
  • Create supportive, sensory-friendly classroom environments that foster participation.

Methodology & Assessment

The methodology is highly interactive, blending theoretical input with hands-on practice. It emphasizes experiential learning through collaborative workshops, case study analysis, and practical simulations of classroom scenarios. Participants will actively engage with a variety of adaptive instruments and digital tools. Peer-teaching sessions and facilitated group discussions foster a collaborative environment where educators share best practices from their home countries.

Materials, Digital Tools & Other Learning Resources

All necessary musical instruments (a variety of percussion, simple melodic instruments) and course materials (handouts, theoretical models) will be provided by the organizers. The focus is on non-digital, face-to-face interaction. A shared digital folder will be used for supplemental resource sharing.
