The key to student success lies in a strong partnership between school and home. This course provides practical tools for educators to foster positive relationships, manage difficult conversations, and build a powerful educational alliance with both students and their families.

Description

This course addresses one of the most crucial and challenging aspects of an educator’s role: communication. We will explore proven strategies for building trust and rapport with students of all ages and backgrounds. Participants will learn techniques from active listening and non-violent communication to provide constructive feedback and de-escalate potential conflicts. A significant focus will be on strengthening the home-school connection. You’ll practice leading effective parent-teacher conferences, managing challenging conversations with families, and using digital tools to maintain positive and proactive communication. The course also addresses intercultural communication to better serve diverse school communities.

Learning Objectives

Methodology & Assessment

The methodology is highly interactive and based on real-world scenarios. The course uses a mix of case study analysis, facilitated group discussions, and intensive role-playing exercises to allow participants to practice new skills in a safe and supportive environment. You will work collaboratively to develop communication plans and share best practices from different European contexts.

Assessment is practical and reflective. It will be based on active participation in scenarios and the creation of a personal action plan for improving communication strategies in your own school. A reflective journal will be encouraged to document learning and personal growth throughout the week.

Materials, Digital Tools & Other Learning Resources

Participants will receive a digital resource pack with communication models, conversation scripts, and case studies. The course will feature a review of effective digital communication platforms and apps for school-family interaction. We will use collaborative online tools for sharing strategies and will provide a curated list of further reading, videos, and professional resources.
