Go beyond academics and teach skills for life. This course equips you with the tools to foster emotional intelligence (EQ) and social-emotional learning (SEL) in your students, creating a more empathetic, resilient, and cooperative classroom environment.
Description
Emotional intelligence is a critical predictor of success and wellbeing. This 25-hour course provides educators with a comprehensive framework for integrating Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) into their teaching practice. We will explore the five core competencies of SEL: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. Through interactive role-playing, group activities, and practical workshops, you will learn how to explicitly teach these skills and embed them into your daily curriculum. You’ll leave with a bank of ready-to-use activities to help students manage emotions, build empathy, and navigate social situations effectively.
Learning Objectives
- Define Emotional Intelligence and the five core competencies of Social-Emotional Learning
- Identify opportunities to integrate SEL into their specific subject areas and daily routines
- Teach and model key social-emotional skills, such as empathy, active listening, and emotional regulation
- Implement specific strategies and activities to develop students’ self-awareness and relationship skills
- Design a whole-class approach to fostering a positive, emotionally safe, and supportive learning community
Methodology & Assessment
The methodology is active and collaborative, promoting learning by doing. The course combines theoretical input with a strong focus on practical application through role-playing, simulations, and group problem-solving. Participants will design and share SEL activities tailored to their students’ age groups. Assessment is based on active engagement, the development of an SEL activity portfolio, and a final presentation of a plan to integrate SEL into their classroom. Peer feedback and self-reflection are key components of the process.
Materials, Digital Tools & Other Learning Resources
Participants will receive a digital resource pack with SEL activity guides, curriculum integration templates, presentations, and recommended readings. An online platform will host all materials and serve as a forum for sharing ideas and resources among the international group.
