Discover the power of outdoor learning. This course provides teachers with the tools to use nature as a dynamic classroom, fostering students’ well-being, curiosity, and connection to the environment through hands-on experiences.

Description

This course is a practical immersion into the principles of outdoor education. We will explore how to design and deliver engaging, curriculum-linked lessons in natural settings like parks, forests, and even the schoolyard. Participants will learn key techniques for experiential learning, risk management, and using natural resources for cross-curricular activities, from science and math to art and storytelling. The focus is on building confidence to take learning outside, enhancing student engagement and developing a deeper appreciation for the environment. You will leave with a portfolio of adaptable activities ready to be implemented in your own educational context, regardless of the subject you teach. We will also cover how outdoor education supports personal and social development.

You will learn by doing, actively participating in and leading outdoor activities. Emphasis is placed on peer-to-peer learning, reflection, and sharing best practices among European colleagues. Assessment will be continuous and portfolio-based. The final task involves designing and presenting a detailed outdoor lesson plan tailored to your own students’ needs, which will be peer-reviewed. A certificate of attendance will be awarded upon successful completion of the course tasks and active participation.
