Description
How can we address climate change, poverty, and inequality in our classrooms? “Goal 2030” provides concrete answers by focusing on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals as a framework for teaching and learning. The course demystifies the SDGs and provides practical strategies to embed them across different subjects and age levels. Through project-based learning, inquiry-based methods, and collaborative activities, you will discover how to make these global goals relevant to your students’ local context. We will explore ready-to-use resources, develop interdisciplinary project ideas, and discuss how to foster critical thinking, empathy, and a sense of agency in your students to tackle the challenges of our time.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Understand the 17 SDGs and their interconnectedness, and articulate their importance in education.
- Identify opportunities to integrate SDG themes into their specific subject areas and curriculum.
- Design and develop interdisciplinary, project-based learning units centered on one or more SDGs.
- Use a range of pedagogical approaches (e.g., inquiry-based, service-learning) to teach about sustainability.
- Empower students to think critically about global issues and take meaningful action in their communities.
- Access and adapt high-quality educational resources related to the SDGs for classroom use.
- Foster global citizenship and intercultural understanding.
Methodology & Assessment
The course employs a dynamic and interactive methodology, including expert presentations, collaborative workshops, case study analysis of successful SDG projects, and group brainstorming sessions. Participants will work in international teams to develop project ideas, fostering a network for future collaboration. The approach is hands-on, focused on producing practical and applicable outcomes.
Assessment is based on active participation and the development of a comprehensive teaching unit or project plan that integrates at least two SDGs. This plan will be presented to the group for feedback, encouraging a peer-learning environment.
Materials, Digital Tools & Other Learning Resources
Course materials include official UN resources, the World’s Largest Lesson materials, and curated online toolkits. We will use digital collaboration tools like Miro and Google Classroom to co-create projects. Participants will explore online platforms and apps that promote sustainability awareness (e.g., SDG-related games, carbon footprint calculators).
