Children's hands playing a piano keyboard together

Discover the transformative power of music and technology in special education. This course is designed for educators seeking practical, differentiated strategies to foster active inclusion for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN). Join us to explore how to adapt musical activities and leverage innovative tech, creating engaging learning environments where every student can participate.

Description

This intensive 5-day (25-hour) practical course empowers educators with music-based strategies and digital tools for SEN. Participants will explore sensory-based activities, adaptive instruments, and assistive technologies. We focus on designing and implementing differentiated music lessons that enhance communication, motor skills, and social-emotional development, ensuring all learners can be actively included in the classroom.

Learning Objectives

  • Design differentiated music-based lessons for diverse SEN
  • Select and utilize appropriate apps and assistive technologies
  • Apply music strategies to support cognitive, social, and motor skills
  • Adapt instruments and activities for accessibility
  • Create inclusive learning scenarios that promote active participation for all students

Methodology & Assessment

This course utilizes a hands-on, experiential, and collaborative methodology. Mornings are dedicated to theoretical inputs, case studies, and structured discussions. Afternoons focus on practical workshops where participants will actively test musical instruments, specialized software, and sensory tools. Activities include group work, micro-teaching simulations, and lesson planning clinics. Peer-to-peer learning and the sharing of best practices are central.

Assessment is continuous and formative. It is based on:

  • Active participation in workshops and discussions
  • Practical application of techniques during simulations
  • A final project: The development of a differentiated lesson plan or an “Inclusion Strategy Portfolio” integrating music and technology, presented to the group on the final day

Materials, Digital Tools & Other Learning Resources

Participants will use adaptive/percussion instruments, sensory materials, and iPads/tablets. We will explore specialized SEN software, music creation apps (e.g., GarageBand), and assistive communication tools. A curated digital library of academic articles, tutorials, and lesson templates will be provided.
